“She reached up and gently touched my lower lip, recognition sparking on her face for a split second, but then furrowed her eyebrows, confused. ‘I don't know why I don't remember how I know you,’ she whispered. ‘But I don't care.’”
When I was asked to do this review for TwiNetwork, my first choice was The Ride by aylah50. I had seen this fic rec’d everywhere and the first thing that drew me in from the get-go was the summary. What could be better than reading about our favorite characters donning ripped jeans and flannel shirts as they head banged to Pearl Jam and Nirvana?
The story begins with Edward and Bella’s instant connection at a concert in the 90’s. Without so much as disclosing each other’s names, they share a moment that the two still recall fondly after nearly thirteen years. Now, both thirty-something year olds living in NYC, they meet once again in a health club that Bella works for. They share the same instant connection, but both can’t shake the feeling that they have met one another before.
Aside from the incredible nineties references and music aspects of this story, I found Bella’s back story to be my favorite aspect. The reader knows something terrible happened to Bella the night of the concert, without knowing exactly what. It leaves a sense of mystery to Bella’s character that leaves the reader dying to figure out what horrific things happened to her. Edward, in comparison to Bella, lives an everyday normal life without too many deep rooted issues. He’s grounded but also lacks any of the real passion he once possessed. The two seem like a good fit for one another. Bella is the key of getting Edward out of his funk, and Edward is the glue that holds Bella together as she continues to struggle with her ghosts of her past.
I would recommend anyone this story who is looking for a little nostalgia, some sexy ExB times an overall great plot. Everyone should check out The Ride by aylah50!
